SUMMARY:
Both optical energy sources (laser and IPL) and radiofrequency have well-established roles in the treatment of facial lesions in aesthetic dermatology. The most commonly targeted lesions are the telltale lesions of skin aging, both intrinsic and photoinduced: fine lines and wrinkles, laxity, telangiectasia, dyschromia. In 2000, the concept of combining laser and radiofrequency (RF) in a single handpiece evolved out of the desire to combine focal superficial skin heating with greater tissue penetration. This article will review the literature reporting the use of combined optical and radiofrequency treatment for treatment of facial lesions.
