SUMMARY:
A 19-year-old male patient is reported who had a 3-year-history of asymptomatic papules. The lesions were limited to the face and located on the forehead and in the retroauricular areas. They were skin-colored, firm on palpation, and ranged from 2 to 4 mm in diameter. When nicked with a scalpel, one papule extruded a creamy, sticky material. Histopathological examination of a representative lesion revealed a cyst in the mid-dermis, lined by a few layers of epithelial cells. The contents of the cyst were vellus hair fragments and laminated keratinous material. No similar family history was obtained. A review of the international literature identified only a few reports of predominantly or even exclusively facial localization of eruptive vellus hair cysts.
