SUMMARY:
Cellullite or so called orange-peel skin can occurr because of wight issue overweight and/or a weak connective tissue already in young adults. In progressing adulthood these changes can be found in 80 % to 90 % of women at varying degrees. For treatment, different approaches are offered. Besides different massage techniques, liposuction, subsicion and topical preparations, physical methods like lasers, radiofrequency as well as ultra sound and shock wave therapy are deployed. Radial shock wave therapy is a new method of treatment.
Radial shock waves are high energetic sound waves pneumatically created outside the body. They are integrated into the tissue where they spread in a radial form. Through the radial spread the treatment is perceived as gentle. After treatment, the tissue reacts to the shock wave with a higher metabolic activity. As a result the epidermis tightens. Also, the accustic waves stimulate blood circulation as well as the production of collagen. Aim of our pilot study was to reduce the so called “matress phenomena” in the area of the upper thighs.
For this purpose comparable measurements with 3 different treatment forms were performed. Our investigation was able to show, that the circumference of the upper thigh can be reduced significantly. Also, the appearance of cellullite, can be improved considerably.
