SUMMARY:
Fractional laser therapy of chronic actinic damage of the skin has shown to be safe and effective. While there is a plethora of publications regarding  indications, results and side effects these knowledge cannot be easily transferred onto specific systems and individual patients. Therefore  recommendations have been setup in order to provide information how to use a specific system for various treatment regimens. Based on a 36 month experience with more than 500 patients the expert panel derived information for  requirements of doctors training, informed consent, parameter settings and follow-up. To date it is known that a single therapy won’t result in a sufficient treatment of chronic actinic damage of the skin. However it is not exactly known if there is an individual intrinsic remodelling capacity threshold. Therefore the concept of data collection for specific intervention and systems shall be continued to derive up to date recommendations.
