CONTROVERSIES IN AESTHETIC MEDICINE:
4. ENIGMA OF CELLULITE
ILJA L. KRUGLIKOV
KEY WORDS: Cellulite, pathophysiology, adipose fibrosis, matrix metalloproteinases
The main controversies of the cellulite may be resolved assuming this condition appears only in a hypertrophic fat tissue and is connected with specific hallmarks of this tissue – its fibrillar and pericellular fibrosis. This fibrosis can produce anisotropic tension in the tissue, causing the uneven modulation of the skin surface. According to this pathophysiology, the optimal treatment strategy by cellulite cannot be realised in a single treatment step and demands a specific treatment schedule.
