Differences between botulinum products
JÜRGEN FREVERT
KEY WORDS: Azzalure, Bocouture, Botox, Botulinum, Dysport, complex proteins, Vistabel
SUMMARY:
Botulinum products are based on differently manufactured active substances and final drugs, Bocouture® and Azzalure® are lyophilized whereas Vistabel® is vacuum dried. An essential difference is that Vistabel® and Azzalure® contain complexing proteins which have no effect in the therapeutic process. They do not influence the migration from the injected muscle and are not required to stabilize botulinum. Complexing proteins bind to cells of the immune system and can therefore enhance the risk of development of antibodies.
