7. KRYOLIPOLYSIS-APOPTOSIS VS. THERMOGENESIS

ILJA L. KRUGLIKOV, KARLSRUHE

KEYWORDS: Cryolipolysis, thermogenesis, theory, critical parameters, treatment results

SUMMARY:
Actual theory of cryolipolysis does not take into account the effect of non-shivering thermogenesis which can directly and quickly arise in a fat tissue during local temperature reduction. Thermogenetic reaction in a fat tissue depends on different factors, e.g. on body region, sex, age and BMI of patients as well as probably on the season of year. Theoretical backgrounds of this treatment method were formulated on the basis of experimental results obtained with Yukatan pigs which genetically cannot produce any non-shivering thermogenesis and thus these results cannot be simply transferred into the humans. Application areas and patients appropriate for cryolipolysis must be thus analysed more carefully as so far.
